I've spent 25 years recruiting across Asia Pacific — Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, Thailand and Malaysia. Commodities trading, Insurance, financial services, technology, engineering and agriculture. Thousands of placements, tens of thousands of CVs read.
I was never frustrated by weak candidates. I was frustrated by brilliant people being filtered out before they ever had a chance.
Genuinely qualified people smart, experienced, capable & whose CVs just didn't land. Wrong keywords, wrong structure, wrong emphasis. They'd apply to roles they were perfect for and hear nothing back. Not because they weren't good enough, but because their CV didn't speak the language that ATS systems and hiring managers were scanning for.
I'd spend hours rewriting CVs for candidates I was placing. Restructuring their experience, pulling out the achievements that mattered, aligning their language with what the hiring team actually wanted to see. It worked, the same person, the same experience but a completely different outcome.
